Great photography of a property is essential for anyone serious about selling, which is why a well-known commercial property agents recently commissioned us to photograph a large manor house they were responsible for marketing.

Despite boasting incredible sea views and a wealth of classical features, the commission wasn’t as easy as it first sounded. The manor house, or hall as its known, had been left to run down, and was in need of major investment to bring it back to its former glory. In chatting over the brief, the client remarked, “..you’ll need to work your magic Tim”.

Now we’re writing this from our point of view, which hopefully will help you if:

You’re a property agent faced with a challenging or difficult to photograph building.
You are a property owner, and have tried to photograph it but without success.
You have been asked to find a property and need professional images to show clients.

The property was on the market for just over a million pounds. If you’ve ever taken property photographs, you’ll agree that many more expensive properties because of their stature are simple to capture in an image. But this hall posed challenges.

Timing for the best light was paramount.
North facing frontage meant very little light available on an already shady front aspect.
Certain aspects were showing blown, broken or missing plaster.
Wheelie bins full of rubbish needed removing.
A full tour revealed overgrown untended grounds, with broken glass and furniture.
