I was asked to photograph the Governor of the Bank of England Mervyn King as he visited the South West of England to speak to business leaders in the Great Hall, University of Exeter.

The Governor’s speech attracted attention across the business world, with Bloomberg’s Business Week leading with the headline – King Likens BOE’s Challenge to Judging ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. The University seated and fed over 500 people, which I understand is a new record for them.

Is was briefed to cause ‘the minimum amount of disruption’, which meant photographing the Governor during a short sound check before his dinner speech. The available lighting was flat, with a bright screen backlighting him, and leaving him cast in shadow. But a pair of new Yongnuo mkII strobist Speedlites mounted on a pair of tripods and triggered by Skyports at either side of the stage gave the Governor a crisp look without compromising the lit backdrop, with it’s important Bank of England and University of Exeter Business School logos. Job done.
