From shutter to shot video

July 30, 2013

Award-winning South West Photographer Tim Pestridge is helping the Met Office to create a series of short films about photography and the weather to feature as part of its new ‘Get Ready for Summer’ campaign. This is a particularly prestigious opportunity for Tim as he joins a list of high profile organisations and companies helping the campaign such as the RNLI, Cancer Research UK and the Forestry Commission.

The Met Office #loveukweather campaign has recently been launched, with the content from different partner organisations offering the public safety advice and things to do, linked to each type of weather they might experience

“It really was an opportunity too good to miss for us, as the Met Office website receives 800,000 hits on average a day. I rely on the Met Office app to schedule my work effectively.” Tim adds, “Despite preferring being behind the camera, I think the new videos and campaign offer some great suggestions for anyone wondering what to do in our always surprising climate.”

The Met Office has used Tim’s photography services for over 5 years, commissioning him to create images for advertising and marketing campaigns. Tim received national recognition in June having been awarded the BIPP Best Joint Licentiate of the Year 2012.

Tim went full-time as a commercial photographer 8 years ago and his creative skills have been in constant demand by businesses and organisations in the South West and beyond.

The main film entitled ‘From shutter to shot’ was undertaken and produced by Wild Horse Films who are based in Chagford, along with a series of Tim’s tips on photographing in sunny weather and other conditions (http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/get-ready-for-summer/explore/sunny-day/photography).

Anna Slingo, digital content manager at the Met Office said: “This year we’ve seen some glorious sunny days but most summers will see many different types of weather. We want these pages to help you make the most of summer and stay safe while doing it. Photography is one of those pastimes which you can do whatever the weather and we’re really pleased to have Tim working with us to show you how to get the best from your camera.”
